Changi Loses Top Spot as Doha Airport Named World's Best

Viralized Staff1 min read

In a shift at the top of the aviation world, Qatar's Hamad International Airport has overtaken Singapore Changi to claim the title of the world's best airport for 2024.

A New Leader in Global Transit

For years, Singapore Changi Airport has been the default answer when travelers are asked for the world's best terminal. However, the 2024 Skytrax World Airport Awards have signaled a change in the rankings. Doha’s Hamad International Airport in Qatar has officially taken the top spot, ending Changi's twelve-time streak as the global leader.

Luxury and Logistics in Doha

The rise of Hamad International is attributed to its rapid expansion and focus on passenger comfort. The facility serves as the central hub for Qatar Airways and has become renowned for its indoor tropical garden, known as ORCHARD, and its high-end retail offerings. Survey respondents highlighted the ease of navigation and the efficiency of the transfer process as key reasons for the airport's success.

Singapore Remains a Top Contender

Although it fell to second place, Singapore Changi continues to lead in specific categories. The airport was recognized for its immigration services and for having the world's best airport staff. Changi’s Jewel complex, featuring the world’s tallest indoor waterfall, remains a major draw for both travelers and local visitors who go to the airport specifically for the dining and greenery.

Regional Winners and Trends

Beyond the top two, the rankings reflect a strong performance from Asian and European hubs. Seoul Incheon climbed to third place, while Tokyo Haneda and Tokyo Narita followed closely in fourth and fifth. The awards are based on customer satisfaction surveys involving passengers from over 100 nationalities, covering everything from check-in and arrivals to security and shopping options.
